Interviewer: Hello and welcome to wills podcast, the show that informs you about jobs in the media industry and how to get into it. Today we will talk to Barry a top editor to tell you the ins and outs of getting into the industry. Hello Barry.

Barry: Hello. Thank you for having me on the show.

Interviewer: Thank you for being here. So, can you tell me and the viewers what is like to be an editor.

Barry: Being an editor is amazing. Firstly, when you get to be an editor of a movie you get to edit any type of scenes. It can be a challenge at times, but you get to see the scenes done before anyone else. Secondly, once you have been an editor for some years you can chose to be self-employed. This means that you can chose who you want to work.

Interviewer: That sounds amazing. I love to be self-employed, you get to work with who you choose.

Barry: I agree it is way better than having to be doing a job with someone you dislike.

I: Yes, I agree that is certainly better. So how did you get into your job? How did you start out?

Barry: So, when I was at school I was so interested in editing. I ended up going to university and I studied the subject. It was fantastic. After and during university I made short films with my mates.

Interviewer: That must have been so much fun.

Barry: oh yes it was so much fun, and I learned so many new skills. With these skills I then got an apprenticeship. After a year or so I then got recognised by Pixar, Disney, and Marvel.

Interviewer: wow that sounds amazing. I cannot imagine being recognised by big names such as Marvel.

Barry: Yes, it was pretty good. I worked for both Disney and marvel for about 6 years and now I am, as we said before, self-employed.

Interviewer: so, what would you say for beginners getting into editing.

Barry: Always be ambitious. Never give up if you find faults or everything gets a bit too much. do not let it break you keep on going because it is worth it.

Interviewer: thank you for being here today Barry This was so interesting, and I think our listeners feel the same.

Barry: You are very welcome.

Interviewer: That was Barry everybody. If you would like to Get into editing, go to WWW.beginnerswebsite.com and search editing you will not be disappointed. Join me tomorrow when we talk to Lucy an editor for Pixar. Goodbye.

The podcast.

The problem with my podcast is due to the coronavirus I could not record my podcast in school as planned. This means I did not have access to better equipment so instead of a good quality microphone I used my headphone microphone. As I recorded my podcast on my phone and saved my audio on my computer, I ended up using premiere because is was easy to put my audio in the right order.
